Hope Notes 10/16/2019

October 16, 2019

DEAR FRIENDS OF HOPE ~
A child is like a blank slate, and everything we write on our children stays with them forever.  It’s a staggering responsibility knowing that what we say and do is imprinted in their hearts and minds. Some 60 years later I can still ‘read’ things that were written on my soul as a child.  Some good; some not so good.  But fear not!  As believers, parents are not the only ones writing the stories.  Our stories are a biography of wisdom and grace written by Another.  God wrote a book about us before our parents even thought about having us! “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” (Psalm 139:16)  We can rejoice because our ‘names are written in heaven’ (Luke 10:20). God knows the beginning, the end, and all the plot twists and turns in between. Not only that, He has the power to rewrite our stories.  He is constantly at work behind the scenes, working ‘all things for good’ (Romans 8:28) no matter how dismal they may seem. We should take heart from Philippians 1:16, “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” Our Lord is the true Author of our lives.  Only He has the authority to write the ending to our stories.  Why do we keep trying to?  We can be sure that, when God writes The End, our story will be complete and will be a masterpiece that will leave us in awe and bring Him glory.

SUNDAY MORNINGS
FROM BONDAGE TO FREEDOM –  A STUDY THROUGH EXODUS

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE
Pausing our study in Exodus in order to enjoy the privilege of listening to our own Jim Jefferson share what the Lord has laid on his heart.  It’s always a pleasure to hear a word of testimony or encouragement from a fellow ‘Hoper’.  Don’t miss this opportunity!

HOW FAITH CAN LEAD TO FRIENDSHIP – (James 2:20-23 / Hebrews  11:17-19)
The term friend has been forever changed by social media.  Our ever changing technology has completely altered how we establish, keep, and grow our friendships. Today we will take a look at the life of Abraham and how his journey leaves the Scripture calling him a friend of God.  God put a unique calling on Abraham’s life, and despite the overwhelming odds that he faced, Abraham put his faith into action.
With Abraham as our example, we will explore how living out our faith, right where we are, can grow our own friendship with God that will echo throughout eternity.

MESSAGES AVAILABLE
Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with.  Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org and on YouTube “Hope Christian Fellowship”.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up!  “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)  PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday.  So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the 1st & 2nd Grade classroom to pray together for God’s power in each of us.  We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!
