Hope Notes 09/04/2019

September 4, 2019

DEAR FRIENDS OF HOPE ~

Although I no longer have a child gearing up to go back to school, I still feel like September is the start of a new year. (Anybody else with me?) I know the calendar says that January is, but for me it’s definitely September. Life seems to slip back into a more predictable rhythm. My hubby and I are living the retired life now, but we still feel those patterns shift. There’s no more buying school supplies, packing lunches, or keeping up with all the school activities to mark the beginning of fall. Instead we enjoy having our ‘regular’ church activities begin again. Bible study is going strong on Wednesday evenings, small groups are springing up all over the place, and the classrooms are once again filled with kids, teens, and young adults. There are meetings to attend and new options for serving crop up. It’s always an exciting time at Hope! We plan our weeks around these things and are happy to do so. It makes me sad when I hear people crossing ‘church stuff’ off their list because they feel they’re simply too busy. I admit that it’s much easier now for us in this phase of our lives, but we still made the effort even when things were much crazier. It’s not about ‘having’ the time. It’s about making the time. And God will always honor your desire to make His kingdom and His work a priority. I read somewhere that you prioritize spending time with God (or doing things FOR God) like you prioritize spending money. You spend it on what’s the most important to you. Talk about a convicting sentence! It makes me cringe when I think of some of the ways I spend my time. So…….the start of a ‘new year’ seems like a good time to make sure I’m keeping spending time with God and doing His Kingdom work high on my list of priorities.
“Therefore, we must be thankful that we have a kingdom that cannot be shaken. Because we are thankful, we must serve God with fear and awe in a way that pleases him.” (Hebrews 12:28)

SUNDAY MORNINGS
SERIES – FROM OUTSIDER TO INSIDER
One of our challenges as a church for this year has been to find a way to integrate newer or disconnected people into our family. This can be difficult for any number of reasons, but we believe that we have the power of God through the Holy Spirit in each of us to accomplish this work for God’s kingdom. We’re going to spend a few weeks talking about WHY and HOW we all can have a part at bringing outsiders in.

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE – Group Up! (Acts 2:42-47 / Ephesians 4:1-3)
The world in which we live is awash in virtual connection, but seems to not leave much time or energy for actual face-to-face connection. People have hundreds of friends or followers online, but spend most of their time interacting with people by typing words into their phone. Of course, we all feel how unhealthy and harmful this can be. But many of us don’t see any other way to live. As a church, we’re pushing against the flow towards isolation with a plan to get everyone into a small group. But this is not a project for ‘church leadership’’; it is a project for the church. Today, we’ll take some time to study the foundations and patterns handed down to us from the first century church through Luke and Paul. And we’ll try to apply what we learn to the invitation Hope is giving to each Hoper to ‘group up’!

MESSAGES AVAILABLE
Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with. Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org and on YouTube “Hope Christian Fellowship”.
SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up! “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday. So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the 1st & 2nd Grade classroom to pray together for God’s power in each of us. We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

OPPORTUNITIES FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH

HOPE ANNOUNCEMENTS
AUGUST GIVING REPORT
For the month of August, we averaged $8248 per week, which means our annual weekly average for 2019 is now $9155. While we did not meet our giving target of $8500 during the month of August, our annual average still remains above our target and gives us good standing to meet our goal of significant growth in giving in 2019.
For our HVAC project, we now have received $53,810 toward our target of $65,000. We are closing in on our goal and are praying that the Lord will provide the rest of the funds we need for these important projects, so we can move on to addressing a few other building needs in the near future!
