Hope Notes 08/14/2019

August 14, 2019

Dear Hope Friends,

DISCLAIMER: I did not intend to dovetail Mark’s message from Sunday; these events just happened and I felt compelled to write about them. But then again, in God’s plan there are no coincidences……….am I right?!
I went to last night’s deacon meeting expecting the usual mixture of laughter, prayer, and church business. What I didn’t expect to get was a full blown ‘church/prayer meeting’ experience! It was one of those nights where the Holy Spirit just took over as prayer requests were spoken. Hearts were poured out, tears shed, and comfort given as one person after another shared their deepest fears and sorrows. We spoke about how this monthly gathering of deacons is not only a group of people who do the Lord’s work at Hope, but a group who are also family in Christ. Our meetings are not just about ‘business’; they are a safe place to bare our souls. When we’re working side by side with other people, a bond inevitably forms. This was part of God’s plan for how the church is supposed to work. That’s why (Hebrews 10:24-25) instructs us to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together… but encouraging one another.” This is just one of the unexpected blessings of serving. I’ve watched our deacons grow closer as a group, forming closer relationships which ultimately leads to the kind of trust needed to feel comfortable letting your guard down and voicing those ‘unspeakable’ fears.
I would encourage anyone who hasn’t taken that step of faith to reach outside their comfort zone and begin serving to do so. I promise you will get more than you give. Do you think you aren’t equipped with the necessary skills to serve? The reality is the Lord doesn’t call the equipped; He equips the called. What about Moses? He didn’t think he was a leader or a speaker, but God used Moses to bring Israel out of slavery! How about David? He was the youngest of all his brothers, but God used him to defeat a giant and eventually made him king! So you can take cross fear right off the board. Serving will bring you unexpected blessings, new relationships, and a deeper understanding of the purpose God has for you in His Kingdom. Serving definitely helps you to grow in your walk with the Lord. God doesn’t just want to work through you, He wants to work in you. “Obey the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart. Remember the great things he has done for you.” (1 Samuel 12:24)

SUNDAY MORNINGS
SHARING JESUS
One of our big goals as a church family for 2019 is to take a step forward in Sharing Jesus. This is a challenge for us as a church to increase our intention and skill level in reflecting Jesus. And it is also a personal challenge to each of us to grow in our calling as witnesses. So we’ll take a few weeks and talk through several ideas that can help us. There is no more directly eternal purpose to our everyday existence than telling people who don’t know Jesus how they can know Him. Of course, the Enemy would love for us to hide our light, but Jesus told us to put it on a hill. Let’s get better at Sharing Jesus together!

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE – KIDS’ ALLEY
Here at Hope we believe that our key mission is to share God’s redeeming work with everyone we can. We do this with everyone God has conveniently placed into our lives – family members, co-workers, and church family. But we also want to be sensitive to when God is calling us out of our normal circles to minister to those we would not normally interact with. Enter Kid’s Alley. As a church we have supported this ministry focused on the young people of Camden, NJ. Come this morning as we hear from President and CEO, Brenda Hallahan, about all that God is doing in Kid’s Alley and how the Spirit is inviting you to participate in this ministry of reconciliation.

MESSAGES AVAILABLE
Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with. Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org and on YouTube “Hope Christian Fellowship”.
SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up! “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday. So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the 1st & 2nd Grade classroom to pray together for God’s power in each of us. We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

JULY GIVING UPDATE
For the month of July, we averaged $7967 per week, bringing our annual average weekly giving down to $9230. Our overall average remains above our annual target of $8500 per week, even though July wound up below this target. While summer is understandably scattered, we all need to be faithful in our support of Hope – especially since some of our biggest outreach happens in the summer!
Also, for our special building project, our progress has slowed. We have now received a totally of $51,870 towards our target of $65,000. We need to find a way to see the remaining money come in so we can finish the important HVAC projects and have our building environments at full function and efficiency. Please prayerfully consider what the Lord would enable you to give towards this project!
