Hope Notes 06/05/2019

June 5, 2019

Dear Hope Friends,

Are you familiar with the term ‘preppers’? Preppers are those who actively prepare for all types of emergencies from natural disasters to civil unrest. They go to any lengths to make sure they are prepared for any of life’s uncertainties. Both the Boy and Girl Scouts’ motto is ‘Be prepared’. I think most of us like to feel prepared for things. It’s fun to prepare for a happy event; weddings, baby showers, birthday parties and graduations are all exciting times that we enjoy getting ready for. But have you ever tried preparing yourself for some dreaded occasion, a sad event, or maybe something you think may be ahead but aren’t really sure? That’s NOT so much fun, is it? In fact, we prolong the sense of doom by trying to prepare. And yet we do it over and over again.
It is good to prepare for some things, however we shouldn’t rely on our preparation, but on God. I don’t believe that God means for us to be striving to prepare for everything life might throw our way. He wants us to trust His purpose and plan. He desires that we lean on Him, having faith that He will go ahead of us and prepare the way. “A man’s heart plans/prepares his course, but the LORD determines his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9) Yet the truth is that the thought of venturing into the unknown future and trusting Him to provide as we do feels………dangerous. It goes against our penchant for planning and our desire to control. We can make all the plans in the world, but we need to remember this: “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” (Proverbs 19:21)
Being prepared feeds the illusion that we somehow have control over our lives. Surely we know we do not! Our God alone is sovereign. “The LORD Almighty has sworn an oath: “What I have planned will happen. What I have determined to do will be done.” (Isaiah 14:24) Let that knowledge fill us with the confidence to step out in faith even when we feel unprepared.

Why We Worship – A series on the depth behind our singing together in church.
Each week we get together as a church and sing. In fact, churches all around the world get together every Sunday and do the same thing. But do you know why this is virtually a universal part of church? We even see worship singing in heaven! Why is this such a big deal? And what do you miss when you don’t show up? In the next few weeks, we’ll see how much worship means and why it is an indispensable part of your Christian life. Hopefully, when we’re through, we’ll all value showing up at church to worship together more than ever before.

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE – To Respond (Ephesians 5:18-20 / Matthew 6:9-13) COMMUNION
How are you at responding to messages and texts? Some people are so continuously on their phone that every message is immediately returned. Others look at their phone once in a while, and when they get a notification, they neglect to respond. No matter how you are at responding, you’d certainly like others to respond to messages you send that need an answer. Responding is a natural part of any human relationship. It is also a normal part of our relationship with our Creator. In worship, we respond to what He has done, promised, and asked of us. We respond to Him. So worship is more than just some nice songs with good words; it is a way that we react to our Lord and draw closer to Him in relationship and trust.

Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with. Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org.
SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up! “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday. So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the 1st & 2nd Grade classroom to pray together for God’s power in each of us. We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

Shout for joy to the Lord all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs

Each month we’ll focus on one of our church goals for 2019 and have a weekly challenge to help us achieve it! Let’s ask the Lord to work through us this year!
Be on the lookout for conversations that are actually opportunities God is giving you to share Jesus.

Please fill out a volunteer registration form and return to Matt Russell by June 10th.

For the month of May, we averaged $8604 per week which brings our annual giving average to $9408. Both of these numbers remain above our annual giving target of $8500 per week and reflect progress in our challenge as a church to see significant growth in our giving this year.
For our HVAC projects, we have now collected a total of $49,717 which continues to get us closer to our overall need of $65,000. Please pray with us for the Lord’s provision for the rest of the funds needed to address our AC and heating needs!
