Hope Notes 3/6/19

March 6, 2019

Dear Hope Friends,

What lies are you believing? And who is telling them to you? We all have different lies that have been told to us. Some untruths are small and transient in nature. Some are deeper and become firmly etched into our very souls. They can change the things we believe about ourselves, our relationships, or even our faith. I remember in elementary school being teased for always being the tallest in the class, for having curly hair, for having a strange last name. Those words were but a moment on some child’s lips, but for a long time they took up residence in my heart and changed my feelings about myself. The truth is that, living in a fallen world, at one time or another most people will lie to you. But there is one we know who ALWAYS lies to us. Satan is known as ‘the father of lies’. “…….He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44) Satan’s very job is to lie to us. About anything and everything. He identifies himself as a liar. “And he (Satan) replied, I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.” (2 Chronicles 18:21) The enemy does not want us to feel good about ourselves or our abilities. He certainly doesn’t want us to feel secure in our faith. He is always looking for ways to destroy us. “Your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8) We need to follow the instructions given in Ephesians 6:11. “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” D
But don’t stop there! A little further down in verse 18, we are told to “pray in the Spirit at all times”. Find your strength and shelter from the darkness the ‘prince of this world’ lays on you in our Lord. Seek out His Truth and cling to it. Stomp out the lies of the enemy and don’t let yourself begin believing them as truths. “Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders.” (Deuteronomy 33:12) Keep praise in our hearts and prayer on our lips, dressed for battle in the armor of God. Satan won’t stand a chance!

The greatest sermon ever preached still has unbelievable power to change us. Jesus spoke these words about 2000 years ago to a large audience on a hillside, but He meant them to challenge us as well. The thoughts upend normal thinking on almost every spiritual front, and if we want to follow Jesus, much of what He represents starts here!

(Taking a break from our Series to hear from our very own Jim Jefferson!)
Being unfairly criticized is a terrible feeling. No one likes to be wrongfully accused of anything. Having been on the wrong side of an accusation, there’s nothing like the truth coming to light to clear the air. In John 18, Jesus stands before Pilate and is asked an extremely profound question, What is truth? In our world truth is perceived to be relative, let’s take a look at what the Bible says truth is and how Jesus responds to the charges against him.

Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with. Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org.
SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up! “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday. So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the Youth Room to pray together for God’s power in each of us. We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

Each month we’ll focus on one of our church goals for 2019 and have a weekly challenge to help us achieve it! Let’s ask the Lord to work through us this year!
Are you giving what God has asked you to give?

We have resources to help you stay committed to reading. One plan will guide you to read through the New Testament in a year reading about a chapter per day, while the other plan is more of an overview of the entire bible in a year, reading about 15 verses a day. You can also download the PDFs on our website under the “Resources” drop-down.

NOTE: It’s not too late; even if you missed the deadline, we’d still love to have you! Register online asap so that we know you are coming!
Parenting is one of the most important roles you have been given by God. With that comes a lot of weight, responsibility, and if we’re honest, self-doubt. BUT it doesn’t have to be that way! God has called you to this and he has given you all the tools necessary to raise your children! Join us as for this FREE one day conference where Pastor Mark, Dana, Matt and Dave will share from their experience both as parents and from working with children to pull out some principles that will help you step into the role God has for you. Register online at hopechristianfellowship.org/parenting to be qualified for giveaways; breakfast and lunch will be provided. For more details and a schedule of the day, visit our Facebook Event!

We are looking for some new team members to serve our 2-3 year old Sunday School classes! See Kara Ott or Matt Russell for more details.

You won’t want to miss our choir’s presentation of “The Story-The Musical” which is based on the book by Max Lucado with music written by Nichole Nordeman. It’s not just a Resurrection story, it’s the bigger, beautiful, miraculous story of God’s redemptive plan from Genesis to Revelation. The performance dates will be Good Friday (April 19th) and Easter Sunday (April 21st) at both services.
