Hope Notes 12/19/18

December 19, 2018

Dear Hope Friends,

Were you able to attend our Christmas Cantata? I hope so; it was such a glorious celebration of the birth of our Savior! Our stage was overflowing with choir members and the sound of their voices filled the sanctuary! The songs have been running through my head ever since. What a beautiful soundtrack to accompany the Christmas preparations (and frustrations) during the upcoming weeks! You can’t help but feel uplifted and grateful. The thought God’s gift of salvation through His Son should fill us with tremendous joy. “We Have Our Savior”! He left His rightful place in heaven, stepped out of eternity and into our world with one sole purpose. Our salvation. “And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.” (1 John 5:20) His was a sacrifice that began in a manger and ended on a cross. Born to die. Born to give us ‘second birth’. As we celebrate Jesus’ birth this Christmas, let us remember that we are commemorating the plan of God for salvation which began in eternity past. Merry Christmas to all!

Taking a break from this series while we enjoy special Christmas services during December!
The greatest sermon ever preached still has unbelievable power to change us. Jesus spoke these words about 2000 years ago to a large audience on a hillside, but He meant them to challenge us as well. The thoughts upend normal thinking on almost every spiritual front, and if we want to follow Jesus, much of what He represents starts here!

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE – No Room in the Inn (Luke 2:1-7)
Children’s Christmas Program
Of all the Sundays throughout the year, there is probably no Sunday we enjoy as a church more than this one. Our little ones take over the stage and bring the Christmas season to its highest point for us as a church. The message of Christmas is so profound that 2000 years of study, speaking, and writing have not exhausted the topic. But it is also so simple that our youngest ones can share the truth of it. We will also take a few minutes and reflect on the themes they share with us as we read part of the Christmas story from Luke 2. With all that Christmas season has become, is it possible that we’ve forgotten some key elements of that first Christmas that made it so transcendent and important?
PLEASE NOTE: We will not be live streaming the Sunday services for the Children’s Program so make sure to make it out to the 9:00 or 11:00
Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with. Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up! “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday. So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the Youth Room to pray together for God’s power in each of us. We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

** For our upcoming Christmas events as we share the Hope that is found in Jesus.
** That the Lord would help us effectively integrate new folks so they will easily and quickly feel like they are fully connected at Hope.
** That God would lead us to the right man for the future Assistant Pastor position and provide the necessary weekly giving growth to add him to staff.

Thankful for the Manger,
