Hope Notes 7/18/18

July 18, 2018

Dear Friends of Hope,

I’ve long had a reverence for sunrise and sunset. Who but our God could bring forth the sun to begin our day, and call it home again each night? It is a tangible reminder of Who is in control. Not only that, but He does it with such glorious beauty! My family knows that I love to step outside at those times of day (okay, mostly at sunset!) to observe and listen. I feel like the earth hums in the evening and sings with the sunrise. You know what I’m talking about – at twilight the air reverberates with the sounds of cicadas and crickets; at daybreak the birdies chirp and warble their songs. Psalm 65:8 says, “You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy.” I am so thankful to our God for giving us these markers every single day. He could have allowed our days to begin and end with absolutely no fanfare. But He knew how important it would be for us to have moments at both the first blush of dawn and at day’s end to reflect. The beauty of sunrise brings hope and promise of the day to come. The peace and tranquility of sunset brings a sense of calm at the close of our day. What we do with the hours in between should mirror back to our great God how much we value what He has given us. Each day is a gift from Him and we should not waste it. “From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the LORD is to be praised.” (Psalm 113:3)

SUNDAY MORNINGS
SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE – Lift Him Up (2 Corinthians 5:16-20, John 12:32) – VBS KICKOFF!
We are embarking on one of our busiest and most exciting weeks of the year. We sacrifice time and energy to serve kids and families so that they will remember what we do here for years to come. While we hope that all the hard work pays off for every person who comes out to VBS, we are really just doing what we’re always called to do. Of course, we can’t put on VBS every week. But every believer is called to share Jesus with people. Sometimes that means we have conversations with people we know. Other times, it means we’re helping people in need. And there are a thousand other ways we share Jesus. Today, we’ll talk through our big purpose and the strategy Jesus gave us for bringing people to Him.
MESSAGES AVAILABLE
Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with. Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up! “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday. So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the Youth Room to pray together for God’s power in each of us. We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

OPPORTUNITIES FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH
JULY CHALLENGE VERSE – 2 Timothy 2:22
“Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”

BIBLE STUDY PODCAST / YOUTUBE

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY
We’re on hiatus for the summer, but we have a lot planned for the fall!
“Thinking Out Loud” Series: Starting in September, we’re going to take Wednesday nights and talk through together as a church family some of the pressing cultural issues of today. We may disagree with one another, but we’ll have the discussion anyway. We’ll treat one another with respect and work towards understanding each other. And in the end, we’ll pray that the Lord will lead each one of us in our response to these issues. We want to have open hearts to God’s direction. And we want our church to be a place where we can discuss anything – even when we disagree – with the love we’re called to have for each other.
Special Note: We’re setting aside one of these nights as a discussion of the #MeToo movement. Pastor Mark is asking anyone who has experienced sexual aggression or misconduct, and would be willing to briefly share with us, to let us know. Reach out to Dave Hallahan (dmhallahan5@gmail.com) for more details. Thanks in advance for your courage!
