Hope Notes 7/4/18

July 4, 2018

Dear Friends of Hope,

I am a compulsive dater. Wait! Stop thinking what you’re thinking! Let me clarify. I mean I write dates on all kinds of things. Not just things that need to be used before expiring, like food and beauty products. I like to date my recipe cards, cd’s, books, oh and of course photographs! I’ve been doing this since the 70’s, which means I have actual ‘vinyl’ with the dates on them! I like looking back and seeing when something first entered into my life. It often evokes a series of memories back to the era recorded. Sometimes I’m amazed at how many years have gone by and that I’m still using/reading/listening to/cooking said item! I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, or if I should even be confessing this to you all! Let’s just say it’s one of the things that makes me ‘me’.
In light of this, you shouldn’t be surprised to know that my calendar is also filled with anniversary dates of all kinds. And one very important one has just passed: on June 29, 2008, Hope Christian Fellowship had our first service in this building! I cannot believe that it’s been ten years! Some of you may not know that HCF began in July of 2008 in a backyard, moved to the Friends of Israel in Deptford, then to the Almonesson Fire hall (complete with disco ball!), and then to this building. Every place we have gathered to worship winds up being filled to overflowing with God’s people. There can be no doubt that God has led us to each and every place we have been. We are blessed to have a pastor and a leadership team who listen carefully for God’s ‘still, small voice’ (1Kings 19:12) and make the choice to follow His lead, no matter what their fears or feelings might be telling them. God always honors obedience. (1Samuel 15:22) For sure it can be scary! I think of how every time HCF picked up and moved on to the next place, there were many hurdles to cross. Logistics, finances, additional staff, and equipment to name a few. But God has been so faithful in supplying all of these needs and more! Don’t believe for a moment that He won’t do the same for you! If there is a situation you are facing now that calls for you to make some scary decisions, be still before the Lord, quiet your heart, turn off the roar of your fears/feelings, and open your ears to His quiet whisper. You will hear His voice; choose to obey. He won’t let you down!

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE – Be Still and Know (Psalm 46)
There was a time in our world when people had dinner together as a family and then sat around and talked together. It seems like that way of living has mostly faded from existence. We run from one event on our packed calendars to the next. It feels like we’re always running late, but we simply have too much to do and not enough time to do it. This way of living has an impact on our mental, physical and emotional health. But restlessness can also have an effect on our spiritual lives. When we never have time to spend with the Lord and the pressure on us makes us hurried even when we are spending time with Him, it makes it difficult to know Him. The psalmist tells us to be still. Is that possible? What would that look like? And what effect would it have on our lives and souls?
MORNING OF WORSHIP – Sunday, July 15th
Join us for a special morning of worship, prayer, and communion at our 9:00 and 11:00 services. Those of you who have been to one of our Worship Nights know what a powerful time of praise and thanksgiving these services can be. This Sunday morning version is sure to be just as fulfilling!

MESSAGES AVAILABLE Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with. Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up! “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday. So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the Youth Room to pray together for God’s power in each of us. We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

“Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”

Unable to make it out for Wednesday Night? Bible Study recordings are now available on our Podcast AND YouTube Channel! To listen to a recording, visit hopechristianfellowship.org/ messages, or subscribe to our Podcast on iTunes. Or you can watch on our YouTube channel “Hope Christian Fellowship.”

We’re on hiatus for the summer, but we have a lot planned for the fall!
“Thinking Out Loud” Series: Starting in September, we’re going to take Wednesday nights and talk through together as a church family some of the pressing cultural issues of today. We may disagree with one another, but we’ll have the discussion anyway. We’ll treat one another with respect and work towards understanding each other. And in the end, we’ll pray that the Lord will lead each one of us in our response to these issues. We want to have open hearts to God’s direction. And we want our church to be a place where we can discuss anything – even when we disagree – with the love we’re called to have for each other.
Special Note: We’re setting aside one of these nights as a discussion of the #MeToo movement. Pastor Mark is asking anyone who has experienced sexual aggression or misconduct, and would be willing to briefly share with us, to let us know. Reach out to Dave Hallahan (dmhallahan5@gmail.com) for more details. Thanks in advance for your courage!

We are aiming for approximately 50 jugs, so feel free to bring as many as possible! You can place donations or milk cartons on the the desk below the VBS bulletin board next to the GoZone!
Thank you!!

We are so thankful for everyone who signed-up to donate. If you weren’t able to bring your items in last week, please bring them this Sunday. This is the final call for us to get our much needed items! Thank you!

For the month of June we averaged $7736 per week bringing our annual weekly giving average down to $7999 for the year. We’re trusting the Lord and the faithfulness of our people to give as God directs. Our weekly giving target is $7950 for the year, so we remain above this target. Also, we have to date received $21,160 towards our HVAC projects. Our target is $65,000 so we are about 1/3 of the way to our goal. Thanks to all who have given and to all who will give towards these building needs.
