Hope Notes 4/18/18

April 18, 2018
Dear Friends of Hope,
We praise God for who He is and we thank Him for what He has done.  I don’t know about you, but I find it much easier to thank Him than to give Him praise.  I start out offering praise but then, before I know it, I realize I am thanking Him for all the things He has done.  It may sound like I’m splitting hairs, but these are the kinds of things I think about!  I know that praise and thanksgiving are intertwined and certainly our God doesn’t have a strict list of requirements for our prayer habits.  We are repeatedly told to praise Him in Scripture.  The following is but one verse of many!  ‘Praise him—he is your God, and you have seen with your own eyes the great and astounding things that he has done for you.’ (Deuteronomy10:21)  I wish it was easier for me to get lost in an outpouring of praise.  Perhaps it’s because praise seems full of superlatives and flowery phrases, which are not a part of my regular vocabulary.  I’m more prone to speak quietly and without a lot of ‘flare’.  But God desires our praise; it doesn’t matter how it sounds to my ears. Thankfully, the Psalms are wonderful examples of praise; I’ve found that reading them aloud helps give me a springboard to vocalize my own personal praise to give God what He rightfully deserves.  John Piper  said,  “God wants our praise not because he won’t be truly God until he gets it, but because we won’t be fully glad until we give it.” When we show our love and acknowledgement of our Heavenly Father in this way, we please Him and  enhance our relationship with Him.  This in turn brings joy and satisfaction to our souls. And I’m all about joy and satisfaction!  Want to grow in your prayer life?  I do.  Therefore, since thanking Him comes easier, I will continue striving to step out of my comfort zone and practice my praises!   ‘Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise.’ (Psalm 51:15)

SUNDAY MORNINGS

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE – Do We trust God (Psalm 25)
Do you have ‘trust issues’?  Maybe you grew up in a home where things were unstable or even unsafe.  Or maybe you have been through relationships where what was said turned out to be far from the truth.  For some of us, trust is difficult simply because fear has such a big voice in our lives.  But did you know that your ability to trust is KEY to a relationship with the Lord?  You cannot have a healthy, life -giving relationship with Him without trusting Him.  So those trust issues that you’ve been carrying all this time have a higher price tag than you might expect.  David writes about trusting the Lord.  He had plenty of reason to be scared of what God would do to him for the mistakes he made. And he could often find reasons to think that God’s plan for his life was a terrible plan.  But David writes this song to declare that he chooses to trust the Lord.  Do we?

MESSAGES AVAILABLE
Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with.  Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up!  “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday.  So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the Youth Room to pray together for God’s power in each of us.  We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

Join us on May 13th for a very special Mother’s Day service.  We’ll be honoring our moms and celebrating all that they mean to us.  But we’re going to also to invite everyone to consider honoring their mothers by standing up for mothers around the world who don’t know where their daughters are on this day.  And for young women and girls who could grow up to be great moms, but don’t have that chance because they are caught in modern day slavery.  We’re welcoming Tim Nelson, International Development Director from Hope for Justice who is flying in from the UK to be with us this morning.  He will join Pastor Mark in presenting an opportunity to take this Mother’s Day and make it resonate beyond flowers and cards into stuff that can change people’s lives and eternities!

We’re a family here at Hope and we love to share in each others joys and even sorrows. We want to make sure that your important life moments get shared so we can lift one another up in prayer, celebrate together, and at times cry together.
