Hope Notes 4/11/18

April 11, 2018

Dear Friends of Hope,
In the book we were reading as the devotion for our deacon meeting, there was a reference to Psalm 68:6.  It was only the first six words of the verse, but they leapt off the page and straight into my heart. My eyes teared up and I almost made a weeping fool of myself right then and there.  Thankfully, I composed myself but stored those words deep in my soul to think about later.  I bet by now you’ve either looked that verse up or are wondering when I’m going to share!  Here are those six soul soothing words:  “God sets the lonely in families”.  Maybe they don’t rock your world like they did mine, so let me explain.  I did have a family as a child.  It was small, highly dysfunctional, chaotic and unsettling.  Same for my husband Michael’s childhood.  As a married couple, our family is made up of three.  We were so excited when Emily married Drew and added one more!  Between us we have just a handful of relatives and only a few we ever see.  So we are lacking in blood family.  But God, in His mercy and love, ‘set’ us in a beautiful church family.  And not just our family here at Hope; we (all) have an extended family of believers all over the world!  “………you are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family.” (Ephesians 2:19 We may not be blood relatives, but we’ve all been bought by the blood!  All of us bear the same ‘last name’ – it’s Christian, named after the One through whom we were adopted!  Now we are all part of the whole family of God.“The one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family” (Hebrews2:11).  So…….maybe if you’re part of a large, happy family you may not feel the impact of those words in the same way I do.  But I guarantee you there are verses in His Word that will have the same effect on you!  Find them.  Read them.  Let Scripture point out God’s personal loving kindness for you.  And give thanks that we serve a God who meets all our needs.  “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”  (Philippians 4:19)

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE – The King of Glory (Psalm 24)
What makes someone a king?  In the most literal sense, it is the power they hold over the people they rule.  But we’ve attached the title ‘king’ to other realms too.  We called Michael Jackson the “King of Pop” and Aretha Franklin the “Queen of Soul”.  Elvis of course was the ‘King of Rock and Roll”.  In these terms, we use this title to talk about someone who is incomparable in their talent and ability.  And we honor that!  This psalm is about the incomparable nature of God Almighty.  In it, David talks about the way that God is so much more than we think, and calls us to consider His greatness.  Let’s do that today!

Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with.  Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up!  “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)  Bob Baumiester leads this prayer time – feel free to contact him with any questions: rbaumiester@gmail.com.

PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday.  So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the Youth Room to pray together for God’s power in each of us.  We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve… But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

Join us on May 13th for a very special Mother’s Day service.  We’ll be honoring our mom’s and celebrating all that they mean to us.  But we’re going to also to invite everyone to consider honoring their mothers by standing up for mothers around the world who don’t know where their daughters are on this day.  And for young women and girls who could grow up to be great moms, but don’t have that chance because they are caught in modern day slavery.  We’re welcoming Tim Nelson, International Development Director from Hope for Justice who is flying in from the UK to be with us this morning.  He will join Pastor Mark in presenting an opportunity to take this Mother’s Day and make it resonate beyond flowers and cards into stuff that can change people’s lives and eternities!

Interested in teaching a four-week class for Workshop Wednesdays in June? Submit your class topic, along with a 4-5 sentence description, and brief outline to Emily DiLorenzo or Pastor Mark by April 29th

We’re a family here at Hope and we love to share in each others joys and even sorrows. We want to make sure that your important life moments get shared so we can lift one another up in prayer, celebrate together, and at times cry together. If you have news to share, such as a birth announcement, engagement, or passing of a loved one, email your story (and picture if you have one!) to Emily DiLorenzo (EmilyDiLorenzo@hopechristianfellowship.org) and we’ll make sure it gets posted to our social media!

HOPE CRAFT FAIR – Saturday, May 12th from 9:00 – 3:00
We’ve had a great response from vendors eager to participate in our Craft Fair! We’ll have over 40 vendors selling handmade items, gifts, home decor, and more! Plus food from Brother Bear’s BBQ. Now it’s time to get the word out so EVERYONE can join in on the fun!  Invite friends, family, neighbors, etc. Help us spread the word by picking up a flyer, poster, or yard sign in the lobby and ‘paint your town’ with them!  See Emiily DiLorenzo with any questions.

Is your family in need of some  food assistance?  We have a small food pantry here at Hope and want to help you during your difficult time. Head on over to our kitchen located on the  front left side of the auditorium after the service.  One of our pantry workers will be in there to assist you.  You can also speak to one of the ushers or Pastor Mark and they will direct you to someone who can help.

Have you been on Hope Share on our website yet?  It’s a place to share things we no longer use and  to look for things we need!  It’s easy to upload photos of items you’d like to give away and to search for that special item you just might need!   Here’s just a couple items that you’re missing out on if you haven’t:  Air Hockey Table – Like New! and Futon Couch with Mattress.  Hop on and register today!

Check out our updated church website! We’ve given the site a reboot to make it easier for you to stay connected to what’s happening and how to serve here at Hope. Two places you’ll want to be sure to check out are the “Starting Out” menu if you’re new, and the “Going Deeper” menu if you’re looking to get plugged in to serving. Visit hopechristianfellowship.org to see these pages and more!

Our Card Collection boxes are located in the front of the auditorium.   If you have a prayer request, you can fill out the orange  Prayer Request card and our Prayer Team will lift it up in prayer.  If anyone has a need or knows of someone in need, one way to let us know is to drop a yellow Needs Request card into the box.  Our guests can fill out the blue Visitor Card and drop it in the box. All three cards are right there with the collection box – how easy is that?!

We make it easy to give as the Lord leads.  There are envelopes and a drop box in the back of the auditorium.  If you prefer to give electronically, we have online and texting options.  Just go to our website and check them out!  www.hopechristianfellowship.org

The New Testament has this wonderful ministry for the elders of a church – PRAYER. And we’d like to offer it to anyone who is in need of healing (physical or otherwise) or who needs the power of God to be at work in their lives in a special way.  If you or anyone you know would like to take advantage of this ministry, contact Pastor Mark to set up a time after one of our Sunday services for the elders to pray over you.

There are so many places to connect and serve here at Hope. There truly IS ‘something for everyone’ and we want to make it easy for you to know all the different options!  You can go to our website (hopechristianfellowship.org), click on ‘Going Deeper’, and you will see all our ministries and the various teams they have. You can also check out our Ministry and Service Opportunities brochure (on the glass tables).  Keep your eye on this section as we post any pressing needs.

Join us the first Saturday of every month for a work day at the church. We can use any level of skill – don’t be intimidated! Check out the bulletin board near the back entrance to see the upcoming projects our team is planning to complete.
