Hope Notes 9/28/17

September 28, 2017

Dear Friends of Hope,
Have you noticed?  Summer is leaving silently.  It doesn’t go out with a bang; there is no sudden drop in temperature, the trees do not become bare overnight.  We do not awaken one day completely surprised that there’s a chill in the air or that it’s getting dark earlier.  It kind of sneaks up on us gradually.  Relationships often end that way, too.  There may be subtle hints that feelings are changing, that someone isn’t as available as they used to be.  We try and ignore the signs and hold on to the familiar.  The thing is, we can’t do that with the seasons and we can’t do that with relationships.  No matter how hard we try, the summer will end and fall will come.  The person we love may no longer love US.  Life is full of change.  Filled with beginnings and with endings.  Sometimes we are prepared for them and sometimes not.  But they come just the same.  The Good News is that, as believers, we have a relationship with a God who (unlike the seasons) DOES.NOT.CHANGE.  “For I, the Lord. do not change…” (Malachi 3:6)  He will never try and subtlety prepare us for the fact that He will be leaving us.“He Himself has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)  In fact, even when we try and leave Him, He is faithful.  We grow casual in our devotion, cold in our praises, and our prayer life may come to a screeching halt.  And yet still – He is faithful.  He is patient.  He waits for us.  He seeks us out.  “I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak…” (Ezekial 34:16)  Those are such encouraging promises.  So while we may not be able to stop the seasons or relationships from changing, we can rest assured that we serve an unchanging, ever-present, soul seeking God!

Wise Connections (Proverbs 12:18,25,15,26)
Your mobile phone most likely keeps you constantly aware of the need for a good connection.  Having signal so that you can text or call is a basic necessity.  Of course, now we’re also dependent on a data connection to keep up to date on all that’s happening on social media and in the world.  The quality of your connection has everything to do with how well your phone works.  Likewise, people need quality connections.  Many times, people don’t see the correlation between the people they choose to be around (or the ones they don’t choose to be around) and the experience of their life.  As we talk about how important church is in your life, we’re going to take a look in Proverbs and see the way that wise connections can make all the difference in your life!

Sexual Ethics begins October 8th. The world has a lot to say about this topic and as a Christian it can feel confusing to navigate what’s true and what isn’t. But thankfully, God also has a lot to say about these issues! Let’s dive into the bible and discover the truths that we as believers need to know about sexual ethics.

Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with.  Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up!  “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)  Bob Baumiester leads this prayer time – feel free to contact him with any questions: rbaumiester@gmail.com.

PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday.  So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the Youth Room to pray together for God’s power in each of us.  We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

“Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.”

BAPTISM SERVICE – Wednesday, Oct 4th @ 7:00 pm – This Wednesday!
We will be having our baptism service this Wednesday. Come out for this powerful service that is like no other! Support your brothers and sisters in Christ as they declare their faith through baptism and give testimony of God’s goodness in their lives.

Our Card Collection boxes are located in the front of the auditorium.   If you have a prayer request, you can fill out the orange  Prayer Request card and our Prayer Team will lift it up in prayer.  If anyone has a need or knows of someone in need, one way to let us know is to drop a yellow Needs Request card into the box.  Our guests can fill out the blue Visitor Card and drop it in the box. All three cards are right there with the collection box – how easy is that?!

Make sure to check out Hope Share on our website – it’s a place to share things we no longer use and to look for things we need!  It’s easy to upload photos of items you’d like to give away and to search for that special item you just might need!

We make it easy to give as the Lord leads.  There are envelopes and a drop box in the back of the auditorium.  If you prefer to give electronically, we have online and texting options.  Just go to our website and check them out!  www.hopechristianfellowship.org

The New Testament has this wonderful ministry for the elders of a church – PRAYER. And we’d like to offer it to anyone who is in need of healing (physical or otherwise) or who needs the power of God to be at work in their lives in a special way.  If you or anyone you know would like to take advantage of this ministry, contact Pastor Mark to set up a time after one of our Sunday services for the elders to pray over you.

There are so many places to connect and serve here at Hope. There truly IS ‘something for everyone’ and we want to make it easy for you to know all the different options!  You can check out our Ministry and Service Opportunities brochure (on the glass tables) and also keep your eye on this section as we post any pressing needs.

For all Kids Ministry scheduling, please refer to the Planning Center or contact your team leader.
