Monday Morning Pastor – 1/22/17

January 23, 2017
Note: Each week we will have a guest writer who will share a few of their personal thoughts on Sunday’s sermon. Unlike Monday Morning Quarterbacking, from which this series gets its name, we aren’t looking to critique so much as share how we have been personally impacted. This week’s post comes from Sherri Riddell.

What a treat hearing from our missionary to Uganda, Josh Hallahan today AND Pastor Mark Ott too!  It’s so exciting to be talking and learning about the topic of Sharing Jesus and what that looks like and how we can learn to do this well and without fear.

Josh spoke first about the scripture in John 15:16-17 “You did not choose me but I chose you so that you might go and bear fruit – fruit that will last – and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other.”

So refreshing to know that He chose us.  Josh reminded us that we are the ‘fruit that will last.’ So many have been chosen to speak into each of our lives to get us to where we are today.  God put people in his parent’s lives, like his mom’s neighbor Rosemary who asked them to go to church, and in turn his parents were able to invest in his life.  Each of us were either prompted by God or someone that wanted to share Jesus with us.  Our God is so amazing! He not only allows us to share in each other’s lives, He wanted this relationship with us as well.

So, Josh told us a story about his friend Chris in Uganda who was hired to build a swing set. Josh heard God speak to his heart saying, “Why don’t you find out where Chris is with Jesus?” We have such a great and merciful God that while Josh was mustering the courage to speak with Chris, God was using Paddy, the watchman, to prepare Chris for the conversations he would eventually have with Josh. God is always at work on our behalf.  Such a great reminder.  Yes!

Josh began to answer Chris’s questions and God prompted Josh to meet with Chris on a regular basis.  Josh was a little surprised but obeyed God.  So they met almost every Friday at 6am for a year.  Sweet fellowship.

We were designed to go deeper.  To bear fruit that lasts for eternity.

Who knows what God will do in others’ lives as we share this great love.  We don’t need to know all the answers but we can find them out together.  We are simply called to love each other.  Just be real with people and share what God has done for you.

I love the saying, “If God calls you to it, God will bring you through it.”

Then, Pastor Mark, followed up by sharing Matthew 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

How do we let our light shine?  By doing good deeds.  As we do good deeds, it compels people to ask why and we can point them to what God has done for us.  Therefore, they come to a simple conclusion that God is good.

This is an exciting time to learn how to share Jesus and serve others.  What an exciting, refreshing time to be in a relationship with God and with each other.

As we serve each other in the various church ministry teams, we will learn so much about each other and come along side each other.  As we listen to the heart of God prompt us to go and share Jesus with each other, it sure will make it a lot easier to share with others and serve others as well.

I’m looking forward to learning more alongside of all of you at Hope.  We are so blessed. Have a great day sharing and serving Jesus!
