Hope Notes 11/6/14

November 6, 2014

Dear Friends of Hope ~

I remember when my daughter Emily was little, one of the things her Sunday School teachers would do was have the children sit in a circle and then pass a telephone around so that they each could talk to God. It was an introduction to prayer and how simple it truly is to talk to Him.  Even those who found it difficult to pray out loud had no trouble speaking into that toy phone. Of course it was a phone with a cord – not a cell phone or a Smartphone!  Although the phones have changed, the principle remains the same.  Just talk to your Creator. No fancy words are needed.  In fact, scripture tells us that “when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.” (Matthew 6:7) We shouldn’t be intimidated to talk to our Savior.  No one is grading us on how ‘good’ our prayer sounds.  God isn’t listening in distain to the simple prayers whispered in the quiet of our hearts.  He is not waiting for an elegant recitation to be deemed worthy of answering. A simple “Lord” breathed into His ear is enough to invoke His response. He knows our hearts, our needs, and our desires before we even speak them.  If you still feel you are having trouble expressing yourself to Him, go ahead and try that old children’s Sunday School trick – pretend to pick up your cell phone, dial up heaven and talk to God just like you were talking to your best friend!

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE

November 9th

Drawing All Men – (John 12:27-37)

What is your taste in music?  Do you like country, pop, indie, rock…? If you’re a passionate fan of a genre, it can be difficult for you to understand how anyone doesn’t like what you do.  But we all know that no matter how popular a singer or song is, there is no way it appeals to everyone.  Is there anything that is universally appealing? Jesus tells the crowd that when He is lifted up, He will draw all men to Him.  That is a powerful statement.  His death on the cross is something that Jesus says will pull every person on earth towards him.  Do we feel that pull in our souls?  And do we act in faith as we share Jesus with others – that somehow, whether they are fighting it or not, they are feeling the pull toward Jesus in their soul?

MESSAGES AVAILABLE
Did you know that Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE?  Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with.  Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website,www.hopechristianfellowship.org.

PRAYER HUDDLE

9:30 – 9:35

The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday.  So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 9:30 sharp to pray together for God’s power in each of us.  We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME
Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone from 9:15 – 9:45 am in the Prayer Room. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up!

*****CHRISTMAS INFORMATION*****

COMING SOON FOR CHRISTMAS

This year, HCF has chosen to participate in ANGEL TREE – a ministry for children who have a parent in prison.  Watch for a Christmas tree in the lobby with lots of yellow angels on it. Each angel you take with you represents one present for a child (about $15-20).  Gift desires are stated on the angel so you know what the child wants. It’s EASY and it’s FUN!  More information is coming, but you can get excited NOW and start saving to give a little one the gift of the Spirit of Christmas. See Dawn Blair or Wendy Devereaux with any questions.

CHRISTMAS CANTATA

Sunday December 14th

Hallelujah Light Has Come

Here at Hope, we love to celebrate the Christmas season with music! This year, we are including our adults with a Christmas Cantata.  Make sure you are here to be blessed with the sounds of this special Christmas season!

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM REHEARSALS

Both pre-school (3-5 year olds) and elementary (1st-5th grades) are putting together songs and speaking parts for our Christmas celebration.  Rehearsals take place every Sunday morning immediately following the Go Zone from now until December 13th. Every child is welcome to be a part! Make sure your children are here each Sunday so they can be a part and they are ready to perform.

Performance dates are December 20th at 6:00pm and December 21st at 10:00 am.
